FAQs: General Care for Malas
Middle Moon Malas are hand-knotted between each gemstone bead, seed, or bead unit. This allows the meditator to see and feel more of the bead between the finger and thumb while meditating.
General Care and Tips for treating your mala with reverence, respect, and care:
-
Can I get my mala wet?
-
No. Do not immerse your mala in water, swim, or shower with it.
-
How should I store my mala when not in use?
-
Keep your mala in a cloth bag and store in a safe place, out of reach of children and pets, when you’re not wearing it.
-
What tips can you offer when using a mala?
-
Be mindful not to snag or catch your mala on other objects to reduce the risk of breaking the cord. When in use, be mindful not to pull against the beads too tightly, to avoid stretching the cord and separating the beads from the knots.
-
Is it OK to wear my mala in public places?
-
Yes. When active, or to prevent snagging or catching, wear your mala under your clothing to protect it.
